Caroline Burfield

Former Managing Director, Midsomer Homecare

Caroline ran a domiciliary care agency in Bath and North East Somerset for 25 years, from 2001 until she sold it in 2026. At its height it employed more than 40 people across care and administration and delivered up to 2,000 hours of care a week.

That is the whole job rather than one corner of it: CQC compliance and inspection, safeguarding, payroll and rotas, council tenders and contract negotiation, and the provider meetings where local authorities and agencies argue about rates. The parts of running a care agency that never appear in a brochure are the parts she spent 25 years on.

She reviews what this site says about choosing an agency, what questions are worth asking, and what the money actually looks like from both sides of the contract.

What you should know

Caroline is related to the founder of this site. She sold her agency outright in 2026 and holds no stake in it or in any other service listed here, and she is paid nothing for reviewing this site. Nothing she writes changes how a listing is ranked: order comes from the published method and from subscription tier, both of which are set out in the open.
