About BestHomeCarers
We list every home care and supported living service on the public registers in England and Scotland. All 18,066 of them, from 12,608 providers, across 329 local authorities: 15,668 registered with the Care Quality Commission and 2,398 with the Care Inspectorate.
Who is behind it
What this site says about choosing an agency, what to ask, and what the money looks like is reviewed by Caroline Burfield, who ran a CQC-registered home care agency in Bath and North East Somerset for 25 years. At its height it employed over 40 people and delivered up to 2,000 hours of care a week.
She is related to the founder of this site and sold her agency outright in 2026, so she holds no stake in any service listed here. That is said plainly on her page rather than left for somebody to discover.
How we make money
Providers can pay to claim their listing and add things the register does not hold: a description, photos, their rates, the areas they actually cover. Paid listings rank above free ones and are labelled so you can see which is which.
We do not sell enquiries. If you contact a service through this site, that enquiry goes to them and nobody else. There is no referral fee and no lead auction, which is unusual in this sector and is the point.
What we are not
We are not a care agency, a broker, or a regulator. We cannot arrange care for you and we cannot tell you a service is good. We can show you who is registered near you and point you at the evidence.
