Terms of use
Last updated 27 September 2026
These terms are a draft and are being reviewed. Paid listings will not be sold until the final version is published here.
1. Who we are
BestHomeCarers is run by Burfield Digital Limited (“we”). These terms cover everyone who uses besthomecarers.com: families looking for care, people who write reviews, and care providers who claim or pay for a listing. By using the site you agree to them. The privacy notice explains what we do with personal information.
2. Using the directory
The directory is free for families. We take no fee or commission from anyone who finds or contacts a care service through it. A listing here is not a recommendation: registration means a service is allowed to operate and is inspected, not that it is right for you. Before you choose, read the regulator’s current report, ask for references, and check the contract.
You may use the site for your own search for care. You may not copy it in bulk, scrape it, or use it to build a competing directory. The registration data itself is published by the regulators under the Open Government Licence and you can use it on those terms from its source.
3. Where the information comes from
Registration details, inspection ratings and grades come from the Care Quality Commission in England and the Care Inspectorate in Scotland, published under the Open Government Licence v3.0. We refresh them regularly and say on each page when they were last updated. We do not change what a regulator published. If a regulator’s record is wrong, it has to be corrected by that regulator, and our page follows once it is.
Information a provider adds, such as prices, areas covered and whether carers are paid for travel time, is the provider’s own statement. We show it as theirs and do not check it independently. Blanks mean the provider has not told us, and are shown as blanks, never guessed. See where our data comes from.
4. Reviews
Anyone who has used a service, or arranged care for someone who has, can review it. Every review is read by a person before it is published. We may contact the reviewer to check it is genuine. We do not publish reviews that:
- we cannot check are genuine
- name or identify individual care workers
- look as if they were written by the provider, a competitor, or someone paid to write them
- raise a safeguarding or clinical concern, which belongs with the provider, the council or the regulator (see section 11)
- are abusive, discriminatory, or include personal details about anyone
We publish criticism on the same terms as praise. A provider can reply to a review for six months after it was submitted, and the reply appears underneath it. Paying for a listing never raises a score, removes a review or changes how reviews are counted. How scores are worked out is set out in how review scores work.
If you believe a published review is untrue, breaks these rules, or is about you, email hello@besthomecarers.com with the page address and what is wrong. We look at every report, may hide the review while we do, and tell you what we decided and why. Reviewers keep responsibility for what they write.
5. Claiming a listing
Every registered service has a page built from the public register, whether or not it has claimed it. To claim a listing you must be authorised to act for that service. We verify claims against the contact details the service gave its regulator, for example an email address on the same domain as the website on the register. We can refuse or withdraw a claim we cannot verify, or that we later find was not authorised.
6. What each plan includes
Free, for every registered service:
- Your page, built from the public register
- Registration details and inspection dates
- Your phone number and website
- The facts families filter on: funding you accept, rates, areas covered, types of care
- Whether you pay carers for travel time
- Reviews, and your printable review pack
Pro adds:
- Listed above every free service on every page you appear on
- A "Verified provider" badge on your page and in results
- Your own description, in your words
- Your logo and a main photo
- The services you offer and the conditions you know well
- Profile completeness up to 90%, where free stops at 50%
- Unlimited job adverts on CareJobs247 for your branches
Platinum adds:
- Everything in Pro
- Listed above Pro services too
- A "Platinum partner" badge
- A video and a downloadable brochure on your page
- Profile completeness up to 100%
- Unlimited CareJobs247 job adverts, every one featured
A plan buys these features and the position described in section 7. It does not buy a rating, a review score, an award, a recommendation, or any change to what the regulator published. The “Verified provider” and “Platinum partner” badges mean the service has claimed its listing and pays for that plan. They are not a quality mark.
Job adverts on our sister site CareJobs247 are free for every registered employer until at least 31 March 2027, and paid plans add the extras listed above.
7. How paid listings are ordered
In lists we show by default, Platinum listings appear first, then Pro, then free listings. Within each group, services with a review score come first, highest first, and services without a score are shuffled daily so the same one is not always last. When someone chooses their own sort, such as by review score or distance, that sort applies to everyone and paid plans make no difference. The full method is on how we order results, and it forms part of these terms.
Featured placement is sold separately. A service can pay to appear in a box at the top of a page, which is labelled “Paid placement” every time it appears. The list below it is ordered exactly as described above.
8. Prices, billing and cancelling
Plans are billed monthly, per location, in advance, by card through Stripe. The price per location depends on how many locations you list: for 1 to 3 locations, Pro is £25 and Platinum £45 a month each, and larger groups pay less, as shown on the pricing page. The price at checkout is the price you pay.
We are not registered for VAT, so no VAT is added. If we register, we will tell you at least 30 days before any price changes because of it.
Founding rate. The first 100 paid locations pay £12.50 a month for Pro or £22.50 for Platinum, and keep that rate for as long as the subscription continues without a break. If it ends and you subscribe again later, the standard price applies.
Reviews offer. A location that reaches 5 published reviews gets Pro free for 12 months. Nothing is charged when it ends: the listing returns to free unless you choose to pay.
Price changes. We will give you at least 30 days’ notice by email of any change to what you pay, and you can cancel before it applies.
Cancelling. You can cancel at any time from the billing page in your account. The plan stays active until the end of the month you have paid for, and is not renewed. We do not refund part-months. When it ends your listing returns to free: your own description, photos, video and brochure stop showing, and your page keeps everything the free listing includes. What you added is kept in your account, so it comes back if you subscribe again.
If a payment fails, Stripe tries again over the following days and the plan stays active meanwhile. If it still cannot be collected, the plan ends and the listing returns to free. Plans are sold to care providers as businesses, so consumer cancellation rights for purchases by individuals do not apply.
9. What providers put on their page
You keep ownership of the words, logos, photos, video and documents you add, and you give us permission to show them on the site and in material that promotes your listing for as long as they are on it. You confirm you have the right to use them and that they are accurate. You must not claim a rating, grade, award or accreditation you do not hold, show photos of people without their consent, or make statements about other services. We can edit or remove anything that breaks these terms, and will tell you when we do.
10. What we are and are not responsible for
We take care to show the regulators’ data accurately and to say how old it is, but we cannot promise it is complete or current at the moment you read it, and we are not responsible for errors in what a regulator published. Care is provided by the care services themselves, not by us. Your agreement for care is with the provider you choose, and we are not a party to it.
For providers, our total liability to you in any 12 months is limited to what you paid us in that period. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow to be limited.
11. Complaints
About this site, a review, or a listing: email hello@besthomecarers.com. We reply to every complaint and tell you what we did about it.
About the care itself: raise it with the provider first. In England, if that does not resolve it, you can go to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman, and you can tell the Care Quality Commission about your experience, which helps it decide where to inspect. In Scotland, the Care Inspectorate investigates complaints about registered care services. If someone is at risk of harm, contact the local council’s adult or children’s safeguarding team straight away, or the police in an emergency.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. For paying providers, we will email you at least 30 days before a change that affects what you pay or what your plan includes. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
